On the 19th January 2020 I had the pleasure of meeting a truly wonderful woman. Her name is Anne, she is a mother to two amazing woman and a grandmother to 3 gorgeous grandchildren.
Prior to meeting Anne I had met both of Anne’s daughters, Roslyn and Lorissa as they had both visited me in the studio for photos of the children. It was clear that this family was incredibly polite, friendly and they valued me as a photographer. Anne always showed support and commented on any photos posted of her grandchildren and I could see she was an incredibly proud Gran.
When I decided to launch the nomination sessions, I was only too pleased that Anne was nominated. It is always wonderful meeting people that mean so much to others and I love being in the position to be able to give back.
Anne came into the studio along with her daughters and grandchildren and I can honestly say it was one of the best family sessions I have ever had. I wanted to be able to create memories for Anne and to follow it up with words from her family to show how much she means to them.
This is what each had to say:
Roslyn –
“Lorian was born while we were living in Australia and my parents flew over to be with us for 6 weeks just before baby arrived. Mum was in the room when Lorian was born and I don’t know how we would have managed without her for those first few weeks helping us settle at home. We flew back to the UK when Lorian was 8 months to show her to her Scottish family and it was that trip that showed me how much I needed mum. We moved back permanently when Lorian turned 2. Lorian stayed overnight with Gran when Soren was born and again helped us so much adapting to a family of 4 and making sure Lorian felt part of everything and helping her be such a great big sister. Mum has sat through plays in the garden come rain, hail or snow, she’s the children’s biggest advocate and is always there with a treat and an ear when they need to talk or just need a hug. I honestly don’t know what any of us would do without her, she is amazing and has created a beautiful, close family who love her dearly.”
Lorissa –
“Mum is a wee diamond and has been an inspiring role model for both me and my sister throughout our lives. For Arabella, she always knows how to bring a little bit of magic and brighten any day. Be it fairies in the garden or the naughty Gruffalo Grampa. Her creative spark lights up the imagination in her granddaughters eyes. So much she never wants to come home haha! She is so proud of our family and all we have achieved. Which is all down to the help, support and love we have received from her. “
Lorian – Age 16
“Gran is like a second mum from whenever I can remember, she always feeds you and is someone you can talk to. She’s not like a normal Gran, she’s forward thinking and understands what it’s like to be young and is really accepting. When I think of Gran I think of running down the stairs when I was wee after a bath and sitting in front of the fire with a story.”
Arabella – Age 4
“I love my Gran sooo much. I never want to leave her house. She makes the best eggington and toast for my breakfast. And knits special shoes for my dollies so their feet don’t get cold. She always has treats and tells the best stories. And she tells off the grufallo Grampa all the time which is so funny and makes my tummy laugh.”
Soren – Age 10
“She’s the best gran, she’s nice and helps me through sad times. Even if she is sad herself she helps me feel better. When I think of Gran I think of the word lovely and love.” (Roslyn wrote: Mum always has nicknames for the kids and Soren’s had been bagpipe billy because he looked like a set of bagpipes when I fed him, and he is now Po and is Gran’s Pet Boy)
Reading through these comments just cements how important doing this is and I am so happy to be able to present this memory, words and photos to you, Anne, to show you how loved and special you are.
Not only will these photos be a keepsake for you but they will be wonderful keepsakes and memories for your grandchildren growing up. Something they can always look back on with fondness and love.
Thank you for trusting me to create these memories for you. xxx
