Having a Newborn is exciting and you want to capture as many memories as possible. A Newborn photographer can capture some of your little one’s best moments. Here is your guide to having an excellent Newborn photo session and what the best age is to have a Newborn photo session.
What Is the Best Age for a Newborn Photo Session?
There are a variety of factors that play a role in newborn photography sessions. Newborns are often sleepy and still in their swaddling phase, so they are more likely to pose perfectly, but each little one is different.
Babies who have colic or reflux issues may be less likely to cooperate for pictures but at Rose & Cale Photography, we’re more than confident we can capture your baby’s perfect moment. Sometimes, a baby’s personality dictates how we take their picture and which props are best to use in their photos. Some babies pose better than others, and some days are better than others for little ones, but our experience helps us catch the priceless moments you desire.
We recommend having your little one photographed within the first 28 days after birth, but we can still have an excellent photoshoot if you prefer your baby is a little older or you’ve not managed to get in for a session before this period. We have worked with new babies up to 16 weeks old. The age of your little one determines the different types of props and poses we use. Older Newborns don’t stay still long and grow more alert with each day that passes.
Scheduling Your Photo Session
We recommend scheduling your photo session after the 20-week scan to ensure we have an available session once your baby is born. Photographers have to prep equipment, backgrounds, and other props to ensure they are capturing your little one’s perfect moments.
What You Can Expect From Rose & Cale Photography
Here at Rose & Cale Photography, we create the ideal Newborn-friendly environment. We ensure each Newborn photo session is warm with a level of consistent noise so your little one doesn’t wake and possibly become frightened or tired. We’re all about your baby’s comfort, and we know little ones, especially Newborns, enjoy being warm and cozy.
How Parents Can Prepare for a Newborn Photoshoot
Wipes and Nappies
You can never have too many wipes and nappies. A Newborn photo session can take as long as three hours, so it’s best to be prepared.
Bring Entertainment
If you’re bringing other children to the photo session, bring a source of entertainment for them so they won’t be bored. They may be able to sit still for a little while, but sitting still for an hour or two can be less exciting when there is nothing to do. You can also bring snacks to help keep siblings calm during your Newborn’s photo shoot.
Have a Change of Clothing
I have all the outfits, wraps and props needed for your baby during their Newborn Session but you are more than welcome to bring a change of clothes for your little one if there is a special outfit with a name. Family portraits will also be carried out and with these I would usually recommend bringing neutral clothing that matches (no wild patterns or colours). You are welcome to bring a second change should you wish.
Bring Essentials for Your Little One
Newborns have to be fed at least every two to three hours, so bring everything you need to feed your baby plus a little extra. Some become more thirsty during the Newborn session while some sleep straight through without a feed. Being prepared and bringing extra feeds will help in the event they need more.
